Hawks vs Bulls:
The Bulls will be hosting the Hawks as they look for their first win of the season as they currently stand 0-3. The Hawks themselves, are 1-3 looking to bounce back from three straight losses since their season opener. The Bulls and Hawks are both having injury issues early in the season
causing natural bench players to have to fill in and perform like starters to help their team win. The Bulls are without forwards Nikola Mirotic and Bobby Portis due to their altercation in practice last week and the Hawks will be without their best player in Dennis Schroeder due to an ankle injury he suffered on Sunday versus the Nets. Schroeder (team leader in points and assists) was not able to travel to Chicago with the team which leaves the Hawks without their leader completely. This game will be decided based on which team makes fewer errors offensively and stingy play defensively which will be Atlanta who ranks sixth in steals per game and 17th in turnovers compared to the Bulls being 29th in steals per game and 18th in turnovers. Atlanta will end their season-opening, five-game road trip with a win before heading home where they will look to bring their record to .500.
Mavs vs Grizzlies:
The Mavs pulled grabbed their first win of the season last night to the Grizzlies with their rookie point guard of the future leading the way with 19 points on 8-12 shooting. Although that was in Dallas. Tonight is a back-to-back game for both teams in Memphis where the Grizzlies beat both the Warriors and Rockets. Those wins may have been their downfall when the played the Mavs last night. Coming off two great wins against two great teams can build a substantial amount of confidence in a team to a point where it hurts the team due to their “high and mighty” mentality. It’s surprising that the winless Mavs were the team to bring the Grizzlies back down to Earth but it was a reminder for both teams that “anybody can win on any given night.” Statistically the game last night was fairly even although the Grizzlies had trouble taking care of the ball while letting the Mavs get the best of them in the paint. The Grizzlies will correct their errors from last night protect the paint as well as their home court as a whole as they get their revenge on the Mavs.
Celtics vs Bucks:
These two teams will be facing off for the second time this season in the Bucks former home, the Milwaukee Arena or otherwise known as the MECCA. It’s a one time occassion as the Bucks celebrate their 50th anniversary as a franchise. The Bucks star player Giannis Antetokounmpo has been tearing up the competition to start out this season averaging 36.8ppg, 10.8rpg, 5.3apg, & 2.3spg leading his team in all four of those categories and the league in scoring. Giannis is looking to keep this going for as long as he can to help his case towards the MVP award while leading his team to the playoffs as a high seed in the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, The Celtics are hoping that their last two games that resulted in wins against the winless Knicks and the then winless Sixers can help them gain momentum and regain their confidence as a team without All-Star Gordon Hayward. For the season in general, Celtics’ young duo of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum will have to continue performing at a high level for the Celtics in order for them to be successful nightly which is a lot to ask of a sophomore and rookie in the league. As for tonight, the Celtics will need to force the Bucks to shoot from outside as they have struggled to do so this season and terminate as many opportunities within the paint as possible. The problem with that is the Bucks have a 6’10” Greek monstar in Giannis bring the ball up the court and stopping him will be a huge challenge for the Celtics to keep on the outside of the perimeter. The Celtics will improve on their containtment of the Greek Freak compared to last week when he scored 37 points on 59% shooting although, it won’t be enoug. Giannis will still dominate the game, his teammates provide more help around him offensively and the Bucks will avoid a spoiled 50th anniversary, pulling away from the Celtics in the final minutes of the game for a great win concluding a great game.
